Course Information

The initial curriculum developed by Faith & American Politics, Inc., Liberty and Justice for All, is ideal for an adult education course, a Sunday school series or an informal discussion group. The course has three primary goals:

  • To introduce a set of skills designed to raise the level of respect and civility present in conversations involving faith and politics.
  • To provide a basic overview of social and faith values derived from major historical documents, including the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights, as well as teachings from the Old and New Testament.
  • To increase awareness of the importance of people of faith being involved in the political process.

Course Highlights:

  • The course is lay-led and does not require clergy to organize or participate.
  • The course can help congregations, organizations and individuals discuss potentially contentious issues.
  • Lay facilitators learn skills to apply to any small group activity.
  • Course participants learn how to listen more effectively and how to be heard with understanding, compassion and respect.
